Peril at End House ~ Book Review

Peril at End House ~ Book Review

This year, I have read many great books, of all different genres. One of my favourite books was called Peril at End House. This is a mystery book and is written by Agatha Christie.

This book is about a young girl, Nick Buckley, who lives in End House, in the Cornish Riviera. She has a great life, filled with friends, excitement and fun. She is beautiful and smart, however, recently somebody has been targeting her and she worries about her life and the lives of the people around her. Fortunately, the amazing detectives Poirot and Captain Hastings hear of these tragic attempts on her life and they are determined to get to the bottom of the puzzling mystery. After days of planning and organizing to keep Nick safe, something tragic happens and everything changes. Nick, her friends and her cousin, Maggie, are enjoying the annual firework celebration when it gets a bit cold. Running inside to get a coat for Maggie and herself, Nick goes upstairs. But when she comes down, something so horrible has happened that the game fighting for her life loses all its rules. The answer, the clue, the key, to solving this mystery is so small that it is beyond any person's imagination.

This is a fantastic book full with amazing twists and turns. It will grab you at once and never let you go until you know the truth. And the truth is so shocking and surprising, that you will want to read even  more. I loved this book and would recommend it to any mystery-loving reader in a heartbeat.

In my opinion, this book definitely deserves 5 stars (*****) because of the remarkable way it's written and because of the brilliant plot! It is a book that every mystery-loving person needs on their shelf. I would easily recommend this book to any of my friends and I look forward to reading many more Agatha Christie books in the future.

The Black Tower by Betsy Byars

Few days ago, I just finished a book called The Black Tower by Betsy Byars. I chose this book because I interested in this series and already I finished the 3 books in that series. Also because of one of my friend recommended it to me.
Just when I start this book, I felt that maybe I can enjoy this book. The chapter's titles were taking interests of readers so those were very great titles.
The summary of this book is Herculeah Jones is young private detective wanna be. She wanted to help her parents, police detective and a private detective but she can't, so she get caught up in solving a good mystery. When Herculeah's private detective mom asks her to go to Hunt House to read to old Mr. Hunt, she can't imagine what mystery need to she solve. She has heard rumors about Hunt House that her friends tell. Herculeah learns that Mr. Hunt is a stroke victim, so he can only answer "yes" or "no" with a blink or two blinks from his eyes. As Herculeah begins reading a scary story, a book Mr. Hunt chose, she realizes the book has the same black tower in the story that Mr. Hunt has attached to his house. Herculeah can tell that things are not quite right in the house. It is up to her to solve the mystery with her best friend, Meat.
I very enjoyed this book with solving mystery during reading. It was the book that has Fiction and Mystery genre, so I think many people who likes to solve mystery can join this book. I would give ★★★★ stars.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Lastly, I finished this book called 'A Series of Unfortunate Events; The Miserable Mill,' by Lemony Snicket. I started to read these series of books by going over the reviews that others wrote on the book blog. The four main characters were Violet, Klaus, Sunny and Count Olaf. This story is about the three Baudelaire orphans who lost their parents in a terrible fire. But Count Olaf tries to steal the fortune that their parents left behind. The three orphans are being adopted to different kinds of houses. This time, they are being adopted to a member who owns the lumbermill. But they feel that they are being watched by someone who was always following them.
I really enjoyed this book because there are some words that can be hard for some people that are being defined in a more easier way to understand the texts. Also I think that this story has lots of explanations in different ways using metaphor, simile and other methods. I rate this book with five stars because I learned a lot of words by reading this book. I really recommend to read this series if you are interested in realistic fiction.

The Fault In Our Stars | By- John Green | Post by- Diya :)

I am currently reading the heartbreaking yet humorous book: "The Fault In Our Stars"  By John Green. This is a Young adult literature / realistic fiction.

16 year old Hazel Grace Lancaster is a medical miracle. After being diagnosed of having an incurable cancer, Hazel has still bought her self a few years. Having more time to live, her mom has made her go to a support group that she hates going to, but she soon realises that it was a good idea. Hazel meets a young boy named Augustus Waters. He is kind and charming. Augustus has had osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, but recently has become cancer free. One day Augustus reveals some heartbreaking news to Hazel and both of their worlds fall apart. Will this effect their lives?
I highly recommend this book for people who like to read a bit of dry humour and realistic stories. Why I recommend this book is because this book contains a lot of unexpected moments. Each word in the book is full of detail and description. The book is full of metaphors which sometimes, could be a little hard to understand however it is fun to recover the deeper meaning. This book will take you on a journey of sadness, romance and happiness.

I give this book a 5/5 star rating.

Dork Diary's

Dork Diarys
              Skating Sensation
I read the book Skating Sensation by the Author Rachel Renee Russel. It is a series of Dork Diary's.
The book is mainly about Nikki (The main character telling the story in her diary) having to perform in a Ice skating show if Nikki want's an "A" in PE class. And of course she wants it! (She is not really the best in Sports! So she really wants this grade). So her and her two friends have to decide to make a group performance. The only two problems are she needs to find a sponsor and the biggest problem is she can't ice skate!
Always if she steps on the ice with her skates she falls down immediately.
But now it was to late to withdraw because she had already signed up for the show.
She only has to find a sponsor now. And luckily she knows one. It's a puppy and pet shop where her crush, Brandon works (that's mainly why she choose it). But she also really, really wants to win this competition because she wants to give the money she won to the pet shop because otherwise it has to close. They don't have enough people to take the puppy's and they are so adorably cute. And one last reason is that Mackenzie, a mean girl, is trying to make her feel bad by laughing and tiring to steal her crush away from her. She wants to show Mackenzie that she is also a great ice skater just like her.

And then the day of the performance was there. Her friends and her were just getting ready, but the costumes were not the right ones. Instead of  sugar plum fairy costumes there were clown costumes. They were looking every were for them.... and found a dark room, went inside and suddenly someone shut the door. It was so dark that they could not see a single thing and their mobile assistive light was almost dead. Will they ever get out? Will they get out in time for their performance?

I really loved this book and I can only recommend it to everyone. I think this is a book for girls because there is romance in some parts. I really think this book should get 5 stars because this is a really emotional book with a lot of feelings in it. And the author really tried to make the story interesting by adding many people and one big problem. I just loved this story!

Because of Winn Dixie

Because of Winn-Dixie

I have just finished reading a book called "Because of Winn Dixie" by Kate Dicamillo. A little summary of a story is a girl named India Opal finds a dirty dog at an grocery store. She begins to raise that dog suddenly, because of an accident at the grocery store. She named the dog Winn-Dixie (grocery store name). While raising Winn-Dixie she makes friends because many people were interested and liked Winn-Dixie. At last, she opens a party inviting all of her friends.

I will give 4.5 stars for this book because this book tells a story about making friends in a new place. Also by reading this book We could think about how we felt when we first moved to Chennai. At that time we had no friends and also needed to meet new people.

I recommend this book to people who likes friendship stories and also people who like dogs because this book is about a girl meeting a dog suddenly and making friends in a new place.

Dork diaries

Dork Diaries By. Rachel Renee Russell.

This book is called Dork Diaries series 3 by. Rachel Renee Russell, This book is fiction and this story is about school life story.

This book is about a girl "Nikki" that has 2 best friends, and this story is about a girl who always writes in her diaries every single day, and there is a boy"Brandon",  So the thing is there is a mean girl"Mackenzie" at the school who always makes fun of Nikki . So actually this book is about friendship and school life. This book is also about family life like sisters and the bigger sister don't really care about the younger one . Another this about this book is that this book is also kind of story about bullying classmates.

This story is an amazing book, maybe I would like to recommended to people that like to read book about diaries because this story the girl writes in her diary often. I would like to rate this book (****) because this book is fantastic and I really enjoyed reading this book ad this books is also so good because maybe it related to your life.

I choose this book because I have the whole series at my house and at the cover page this book really looks good from the outside, the first time I thought this book is going to be a really easy book but then when I read it is the perfect level for me, and my favourite sentence in the book is (Here's more stuff to paint pint- size picasso) . There is many other series of this book in the library's .

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

I currently read the book Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. It is a science fiction.
It is about Tally Youngblood. She is fifteenth years old, she can't wait to turn sixteen. On her sixteenth birthday she is going to have surgery and turn pretty just like everyone else who is sixteen. The surgery made people look perfect. After they turn pretty they move into the town of pretties. The pretties don't have to work or go to school. For them every day is a party, all they do is to have fun. Tally's best friend Peri already turned pretty so she couldn't wait till she could join him in pretty town, but everything changed when she met Shay. Shay and Tally became really close friends. Unfortunately Shay didn't have the same opinion on turning pretty as Tally did. Shay thought there was nothing special about looking pretty like everyone else. She didn't think that people beneath sixteen was ugly, she thought they looked normal. Everyone Tally knew wanted to be pretty just as much as she wanted to be pretty herself, everyone except Shay. Shay made her decision. She ran away. The choice Shay made affected Tally's life forever.

I am giving the book 4 stars.
My sister recommended this book to me because I didn't have any other books to read. I think that mainly girls would like this book. Mostly because the story is seen from a girl's point of view.
Uglies reminds me about The Hunger Games because both of the stories takes place in the future. You can especially feel that in Uglies, because she lives in a world with very high and advanced technology.

Fourth Grade Rats

I am currently reading the book called 'Fourth Grade Rats', the kids in the school made a saying:
                                                       First Grade Babies
                                                       Second Grade Cats
                                                       Third Grade Angels
                                                       Fourth Grade Rats
Suds is the main character in this book still wants to be a third grade angel, but his friend says that being a rat is what he always dreamed about. If you wan't to be a rat, you have to be tough said his friend. But Suds wants to be a third grade angel. In this book Suds is becoming (or going to become) a rat, because his friend is teaching him how to become one.

I think that this book should get 4 stars because it is
written very good and has very many details.

Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander

 Time Cat by Lloyd Alexander

This story takes place in nine different place in  different time with main characters Jason and his cat, Gareth. Jason is a normal boy and he has younger brother. Gareth is a black cat with orange eyes. White sign of ankh was on his chest- and that was special! Gareth would looked like an owl when he hunched his shoulders and put down his ears. He looked like a pair of black silk pajamas when he stretched and when he sat on a window ledge, his eyes half-shut and his tail curled around him, he looked like a secret. It has not surprised Jason when Gareth spoke a word to him, but he was disappointed that cats actually didn't have nine lives. Gareth had secret power other than having lives, able to visit nine different lives. Anywhere, any time, any country, and any century. So Gareth decides to go travel with Jason.... Jason nor Gareth will not get protected, change mind in the middle, and both of them cannot be separated. Would they come back to their house peacefully without getting distracted..?

I'm enjoying this book because it has amazing details and creative ideas. they would travel into many different places such as ancient Rome, Egypt, Japan, Italy, and so on. I could picture it in my mind when Gareth communicate with people and how they solve problems. They would teach mini lessons to the king Neter-Khet that even Pharaoh cannot give orders to a cat and believe that every animals would follow him when he shouts at them. If I had such a cat like Gareth, I would want to visit the life in far ahead future and meet crazy scientists and see what do city looks like. What would you do if you meet a cat like Gareth?

I would give this book 4 stars(****). If anybody who are interested in reading fantasy and enjoy learning about history, you would definitely enjoy this book!  It really explains about life in ancient city and how people were there. The sentences are very descriptive, and make readers visualize easily by including visual details(five senses). You can enjoy different views of the settings in the book by entering a gate of different places...! This book never let reader put down their book!

The boy Who Couldn't Die by William Sleator

The book that I'm almost finished with is The Boy who couldn’t die by William Sleator.
This book is about a 16 year old boy whose best friend dies in a plane crash. He is scared that something like that might happen to him. He goes o some voodoo lady named Cheri Buttercup. She says that she can hide his soul far away, and make him immortal. He accepts. He wants to test if it works, and he goes diving in the Caribbean on an island called St. Callao. He chose this island because it had a recent shark attack. But the 1st night after he'd become immortal, he had a weird dream, and When He woke up he was screaming the name "Dunwich!" He was surprised.
When went diving at the island, he found a shark, and it bite his leg, but his leg was like iron. The shark's teeth didn't even leave a mark! But the only issue was that one the diving instructors, a girl named Sabine who was about his age, saw the entire thing. He told what had happened and she told him that the people on this island practice the same thing that Cheri Buttercup did. She told him that the most recent dreams that he had, he also had one on the island and he was whispering the words "the lake, the lake", could be clues to where his soul was hidden. She had a point.
He began to get more clues, and he wrote them down so he could e-mail Sabine what had happened. He got more and more clues.

This book is really a fantasy, and it's one of the best books that I've read this year. If I were a book critic, I' de rate this book a 4/5.

Ring of Fire by P. D. Baccalario

I currently finished the book called "Ring of Fire". “Ring of Fire” is the first book of the century series by author “ P.D Baccalario”. This book revolves around 4 main characters. Each from a different city. Harvey from New York, Elettra from Rome, Mistral from Paris, and Sheng from Shanghai and how they all meet in Rome. They journey to find the ring starts in Rome when a mysterious man hands them a suitcase when blake out happences. The first common factor they discover is that they are all born on February 29th. As they go on to find this ring they find out that they are not alone and they have many enemies trying to stop them.

The author has done a wonderful job mixing mystery and adventure. It is fast paced and fun filled.  It has so many grasping moments that it was difficult to stop reading to unravel the next scene. It teaches its young readers a bit about Rome. In my opinion this book appeals to the right audience that the author has chosen. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

This book flows with so much ease. The language is mostly simple with some challenging words in parts of the chapters. It draws mostly middle school readers and the language used is appropriate for these readers to understand and enjoy. The size of the chapters are between  10 to 15 pages which makes it readable.

Falling Fast by- Sophie Mackenzie

http://strangechemistrybooks.com/wp-content/uploads/Falling-Fast.jpg

The book I have read and loved is called Falling Fast by Spohie Mackenzie, This book is about a girl River who auditions for a part in then Play Romeo and Juliet. She finds out what part she gets and as she does the play she finds herself falling for Romeo. Romeo known as Flynn comes for a damaged family and river does not know if he can give her what she wants. She takes a risk though and goes on this lovestruck path with flynn. But does it work out? Was he the right guy? I guess you will just have to read this book to find out....

This book shows me that sometimes it does not hurt to risk things but sometimes you have to be smart if you do. It really stood out for me because th author tells it with such details that makes you feel like your on this lovestruck journey too.

I would recomend this book to anyone who loves romance, boy or girl. But I know that most girls will love it!! If you love books about tragic events and love story's this is the book for you!!

I give this book 5 Stars!!

Blood Of The Cat By: Emily Blackthorne

I'm currently reading a book called 'Blood Of The Cat' This books genre is horror. This book is about the Manny the main character was driving a car with his friends to go to the party but he hit a cat because of the disturbance from his friends. And that cat didn't breath. He felt mad about his friend and also sad about that cat but they left it alone. When Manny and his girlfriend tried to find that cat but that cat was gone. What happened to that cat?

For the rating of this book I'll give 4 stars out of 5. This book is kind of good for me. This book leads me to a scary mood that I really like. But for 1 star that I didn't rated because it is too short. It's only 60 pages. I hope it was more longer adding more story line.

I recommend this book to people who like short horror story. This book's reading level is not that high and also to people who likes cats (Maybe not because the cat in this story is dead). But I wan't you to read this story and tell your opinions to other people!

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl

Currently I am reading a book called James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. As you know this book is popular so I got recommended by my friend. I chose this book because I began to read and it was so interesting and it was also exiting time to go to the next page. When I shortly summarize the story, it begins with a boy named James who lived in the south of England peacefully. When both of parents went shopping to New York James whole life has been turned upside down. Both of the parents had eaten up by escaped rhinoceros. After the death of James's parents Jame tuned in to 2 ugly aunt. He had be slave(In that time slave system abolition but looks like slave...) of two mean women. One day magical grandpa gave magical crocodile tongue but James spill that thing and that tongue got in to one giant peach that was only one at peach tree. James was tired of being like a slave he decided to get some peaches. He took out a big piece of peach and ate and suddenly he noticed the path and get into it. This is the start of interesting adventure with giant insects. Finally at the end James and the giant insects friend arrive at New York City. James become very fame and this is the story. This book is fantasy and fiction. I will rate this book 5 out of 5 and I recommend to everybody who didn't read. This book has special power of altering peoples mind to read. Nobody can endure this power.(It looks like I am joking but I am serious) I think James has same disadvantages as Mr.Fox has.(Mr.Fox by Roald Dahl.)
Mr.Fox had hard life because of three greedy men. During
reading, I thought James and Mr.Fox was dirt poor.

Book Review- Mini Shopaholic

Mini  Shopaholic
Bye: Sophie Kinsella.

Not so long time ago, I read the famous book called Mini Shopaholic (Sophie Kinsella) which is a really good book ! So it's a realistic fiction book and it's talking about shopping, and it's also part, of a really big series. Mini Shopaholic is a book that is talking about a girl named Becky Brandon (née  Bloomwood)  that loves shopping. But when I say love, I mean she really likes it ! Becky just can't spend one day without shopping.
Imagine how happy she was when she got pregnant and that when her little baby came how much shopping she is doing with her. So, Minnie Brandon, which is two years old, already knows what she wants ! She is even worse than her own mother ! If Minnie wants to get something she must get it now ! Becky and Luke (Husband) quickly have a to find a solution to stop that because Minnie seem to be a bit...spoiled. Well, at least, that's what Luke wants, but Becky doesn't want anyone to touch her daughter !

And the worse thing happens when Becky decided to throw a surprise party to Luke, for his birthday. I mean, we all know that,
one, Becky doesn't know how to keep secrets very well,
two, she has some problem with the word economising.....

I think Mini Shopaholic is a really good book. When I read it, I couldn't stop laughing, Rebecca (Her real name, not Becky) is a very funny character, and I really had a great time reading it.

I would give this book four starts, because I just love the way the author is writing, I also really like the characters, I think it's a very funny book, and I love funny books.

I think that this book would be more interesting for girls than boys, but boys can still try it !
