The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

The Thief Lord
by Cornelia Funke
Prosper and Bo are brothers who have been recently orphaned and are living with their grandfather. Their aunt now plans to take Bo away to live with her. Prosper can't let go of his little brother and decides to run away with him so they are not separated. They go to Venice, where they think everything will be magical like their mom told them. However, it is not what Prosper expected and as winter sets in and they are hungry and desperate, they meet Hornet who takes them to the Thief Lord, the most notorious thief in Venice- and he's only 12 years old!  Scipio, a.k.a The Thief Lord, helps a gang of children steal from wealthy houses. Bo and Prosper join him and they all help them to escape the notice of a detective named Victor Getz who has been hired by the aunt to find them. What will happen when Scipio accepts an offer from a mysterious Duke to make a ton of money? Read it and find out!

This fantasy/adventure is set in the city of Venice which is one of the reasons I picked it up to read. I had just visited Venice and had heard about this book from a student. I quite enjoyed the adventure aspect and could visualize the scenes very well as I had been to the city itself and walked along the canals and down dark alleys.

In 2006 this novel was made into a movie. Unfortunately, I have not seen it, but I did find this movie trailer which might interest the class.
We have a copy in our classroom library of this book and I am sure you will also find it in the MS library.
If you like adventure within a city, this might be "right up your alley"!

A Crown Imperiled

The book I have finished reading is a book called A Crown Imperiled, as shown in the picture, it is written by Raymond E. Feist. This book could be a dystopian because of the futuristic features however fantasy triumphs dystopian due to the sheer amount of fantasy that seemingly creates a food chain of fantasy creatures. After Pug has finshed of the demon assault at the rundown castle and the threat of the keshian Army is no more we find ourselves once again with Pug and Magnus however they realize that something is wrong in the Snake Islands. Once they travel there suprise takes them and they realise that the Sven'gari are getting nervous. There was only one time before when the Sven'gari got nervous and that was when the heavens ripped apart along with the ground and gods and demons began fighting.
I would rate this book...

The diary of Anne Frank written by Anne Frank and Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt

The diary of Anne Frank

The diary of Anne Frank is talking about a young Jewish girl who's living during the rule of Adolf Hitler. Anne Frank is a sweet young girl who's trying to find any senses in her life, and she feel so lonely when her dad come home one day saying that all the Jewish people are going to be transported back to their countries but instead, they are put into small rooms and killed with toxic gases. Anne Frank and her family decide to hide in a building apart from the rest of the world. It's so, in this building that Anne Frank is going to live one of the best moments of her life like the worsts. Anne will learn how to be quiet and to not let the neighbors know what's happening upstairs, in the building, but as we know, secrets are always discovered....
I really enjoyed reading the Diary Of Anne Frank, because I felt so much emotions, I was transported in the diary, I could feel the moments of joy like the moments of pain in the book, and I was also really impressed to see how courageous a young girl like Anne Frank could be. I remember that she was saying : "Sometimes I laugh but than I feel terrible. How can I be laughing when many of my friends are dead or almost dead, but should I be always crying ?...."
I would give five starts to the Diary Of Anne Frank.
I think that the Diary Of Anne Frank is a book for boys and girl, yes, it's all about a girl's life, but I'm sure boys can also like it. And I would also recommended  to the people who like non-fiction books, and also historical books, and who like strong writings.
Thank you, and good reading !

I WOULD GIVE ★★★★★ TO THIS BOOK.
I chose this book because in the house, when there were no books to read, I just decided to read the Roald Dahl's book. In 5th grade, my friend's were talking about the Chocolate factory blah blah blah. So I chose the book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and I got interested in this book.
