Be warned that brother can marry a sister, or a 70 year old with a 9 year old. I KNOW! SO WEIRD! But yes it is a great book and I highly recommend it. There are so many fascinating stories. These stories can help you overcome challenges and gives you inspirations. My recommendation is ☆☆☆☆☆, because Rick has put a lot of thought into this book and has so much detail and such a big book. A Dogs Life by Ann M. Martin

This book is one which is very sad, but also VERY good at the same time. It is written by Ann M. Martin. Squirrel (dogs name) has a life long journey as she tries to survive from rough hands to gentle and calm hands. Squirrel was born in a wheelbarrow by a house/farm with her mother and her brother Bone. Her mother teaches Bone and her to stay away from the humans, and she also teaches them how to hunt (and eat out of garbage cans), but one day their mother left Bone and Squirrel while they were still young pups. They were on their own for a while when Bone had been separated from Squirrel during an incident with humans. After that Squirrel was alone until she met a new friend... MOON. Moon and her were partners, they were even together in a big fight with older dogs, because they accidentally ate from their garbage can!

My favorite part was when Squirrel was with moon on a Halloween night (which they did not know what was) and after that they began eating the leftover candy, but Squirrel did not eat the candy because she had already had the experience of it tasting good, but not having a good feeling afterwards.
This book made me feel a connection with Squirrel because she used so many feelings, and she had so many incidents happen to her, that I felt sad reading it. After I read the book I wanted the next book, but sadly nobody has written the next book :-(
I think everybody would like to read this book, and you reading this right now I recommend it to you!!!

The book’s title is Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. The author is Lewis Carroll. And the genre is adventure. This book is about Alice went to the wonderland by the giant rabbit hole and in Wonderland, she met many animals. Also, she went to a mad tea party. She was trying to find the exit of Wonderland.

The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke

The Thief Lord
by Cornelia Funke
Prosper and Bo are brothers who have been recently orphaned and are living with their grandfather. Their aunt now plans to take Bo away to live with her. Prosper can't let go of his little brother and decides to run away with him so they are not separated. They go to Venice, where they think everything will be magical like their mom told them. However, it is not what Prosper expected and as winter sets in and they are hungry and desperate, they meet Hornet who takes them to the Thief Lord, the most notorious thief in Venice- and he's only 12 years old!  Scipio, a.k.a The Thief Lord, helps a gang of children steal from wealthy houses. Bo and Prosper join him and they all help them to escape the notice of a detective named Victor Getz who has been hired by the aunt to find them. What will happen when Scipio accepts an offer from a mysterious Duke to make a ton of money? Read it and find out!

This fantasy/adventure is set in the city of Venice which is one of the reasons I picked it up to read. I had just visited Venice and had heard about this book from a student. I quite enjoyed the adventure aspect and could visualize the scenes very well as I had been to the city itself and walked along the canals and down dark alleys.

In 2006 this novel was made into a movie. Unfortunately, I have not seen it, but I did find this movie trailer which might interest the class.
We have a copy in our classroom library of this book and I am sure you will also find it in the MS library.
If you like adventure within a city, this might be "right up your alley"!
